WOTTON has cemented his place as Mr Argyle over the last ten years. He is strong in the tackle, an inspirational captain, possesses a fearsome shot and can operate at centre-back or centre-midfield.
Wottsy is a one-club-man, having made his debut for the Pilgrims way back in the 1994-95 season and he has since amassed over 400 appearances for his hometown club.
It was the 1997-98 season that saw Wotton establish himself in the Argyle first-team after graduating as a trainee at the club.
The unthinkable almost happened at the beginning of the 1999-2000 season, but a proposed move to Northampton fell through and Wotton signed a new contract with Argyle.
Wotton was named captain by Paul Sturrock at the start of the 2001-02 season, and duly led the club to the Third Division title.
Two years later, and Wotton became the first Argyle captain in history to lead two title-winning teams as the Pilgrims won the Second Division title in 2004.
2004-05 was Wotton's testimonial year with the club and he continued to put in solid and consistent displays.
Much of his early career was spent at centre-back but he has established himself in the holding-midfield role for Argyle in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Wotton has been named Argyle Player of the Year twice in his career, firstly in 2003 and then again in 2005.
Lethal from a dead-ball, many argue Wotton should be in the England squad for major tournaments purely for his ability from the penalty spot.
He scored his 50th league goal for the club in the 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in August 2006, with a penalty of course.
Unfortunately, a serious knee injury sustained last December put an end to his season. Wotton has been working extremely hard to regain his fitness ever since and he is on course to be fit for the start of the season.
