BUSY BOY
THE players may be on holiday but Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is facing his busiest time of the football calendar.
Targets have been identified by Luggy, his management team and chief scout Andy King, and the painstaking task of viewing them all is well under way.
"It has been a hectic two weeks," said Luggy.
"I have watched so many games and so many players are being chucked around, and I need to see players at least once or twice before making a decision.
I have been careering around the country trying to look at as many players as possible. Over the next few weeks, the rest of the European Leagues close down because of the European Championships.
"You sit on a plane, watch a game and come back again. That is the short timeframe I have got because I want to see everybody, so I can make a decision on who I want.
"There have been a couple of players playing with the original targets that have excited me and I have put feelers out on their availability, as well as the ones that have been targeted.
"We have got a whole list of targeted players but not many people sign players at this time in the season.
"The Premier League still hasn't finished and none of those clubs have told their players the story yet. The Championship has only just finished, so I would imagine those players are just being told now.
"We will now have a clearer picture of the free agent list. It is a mountain of paperwork to go through with a fine toothcomb.
"We will bring it down to about 30 players - three or four for each position. We will go for those targets and see how we do."
Whatever happens, Luggy will be the man to make the final decision.
"I am a great believer that the pressure should be limited to one person," he said.
"Kingy targeted a couple of players we went for and didn't get, who were very good standard players, so I am starting to learn about Kingy.
"Summers and Sloop are different because I have known them for a long time and if I had a problem, I would go with them, but, I would still like to see someone at least once."
Rumours have been circulating that Luggy's scouting sojourns may include a trip to Japan.
When asked whether he will be traveling to the Far East, Luggy said: "Not at this minute in time. I have got no need to go to the Far East.
"There has been a lot of stuff in the papers about players in Japan, which is filtering back to here and that is only normal.
"If I am buying a Japanese player, I am going out to Japan. There is no way I am bringing any players here without seeing them first.
"Any player coming from that part of the world will be vetted by me before they become Plymouth Argyle players."
