CHELTENHAM TOWN YOUTH 0 ARGYLE YOUTH 6
The Young Pilgrims remain second in the Puma Youth Alliance South-West Conference following this one-sided game, with leading marksman, striker Toby Davis, taking his season's tally to ten with two more goals. League leaders Swansea City beat Exeter City 3-0, so remain two points ahead of Argyle.
The win was a welcome one after the previous week's surprising 5-0 defeat by Brighton in the Alliance Cup, but the result never seemed in doubt as Mike Pejic's protégées dominated the game from start to finish.
The Greens had already wasted two chances before right winger Joe Mason put them in front in the 8th minute - cutting into the Cheltenham penalty area to receive a pass from right back Bobby Hopkinson and demonstrating his finishing prowess with a fine drive from 15 yards.
And it took the equally-lethal Davis just two minutes to follow that with a similar goal from 15 yards after running onto a through ball down the left channel.
More opportunities went begging as Argyle took full advantage of the following wind, but they eventually increased their lead in the 33rd minute when Bobby Hopkinson's floated, 35-yard free kick deceived the home 'keeper and sneaked inside the far post.
And seven minutes later, it was the turn of Cornish teenager Davis to give the Pilgrims a 4-0 interval lead with an opportunist close range effort.
Mike Pejic gave Plymouth schoolboy Jordan Trott a run-out as a second half substitute left back, and although the Young Pilgrims now had the wind in their faces, they continued to enjoy the bulk of possession - with central defender Shane White hitting the Cheltenham upright with a shot from ten yards in the 52nd minute.
Pej then introduced another schoolboy substitute, striker Liam Head - and he made an immediate impact, combining with Mason in the 58th minute to create the opening for central midfielder, Greg Moseley, to score his first goal this season with a shot from six yards.
And with the final whistle fast approaching, England U16 international Head completed the scoring, side-footing home a cross from substitute left winger Shane Duggan from two yards two minutes from time.
Meanwhile, Argyle are having second thoughts about the wisdom of postponing next Saturday's home Alliance game against Bristol Rovers ahead of their home F.A. Youth Cup-tie against Coventry City at Home Park the following Tuesday (ko 7pm).
The reason for the re-think is the one-match disciplinary suspension the F.A. have imposed on central defender Ashley Hodginson following his sending-off for two bookings in the recent defeat by Brighton. If the game against Rovers is re-instated, that will count as the game Hodgkinson misses, otherwise he will be ruled out of the Youth Cup-tie.
Argyle's Centre of Excellence schoolboy teams have a full programme of games against Devon rivals, Exeter City, next weekend - on Saturday the U16's travel to City's Cat & Fiddle training ground, and on Sunday the 15's, U14's, U10's and U9's entertain the Grecians at Plymstock School, while the U13's, U12's and U11's visit Exeter (all games ko at 11am).
