YOUNG Plymouth Argyle player Jemma Rose continues to make a positive reputation for herself in women's football after returning from a series of fixtures in Georgia.

Jemma was playing for England's U17 women's side in their UEFA U17 European Championship Round-Robin qualifying group against the hosts Georgia, Slovakia and Russia.

The 15 year old centre-back was rewarded for some impressive performances for the U17 side over recent months with a place in the squad amongst players older than herself, and from women's football powerhouses such as Arsenal, Everton and Leeds.

Upon arriving in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, Rose was delighted to hear that she had been selected as captain for the Young Lions first game against the host nation.

That game took place on October 27, and Jemma captained the team to a comprehensive 13-0 victory, scoring her first international goal from the penalty spot in the process.

The second match on October 29 was against Slovakia, who proved to be much sterner opposition. Jemma once again adorned the captains armband, and once again played a prominent role in a good 3-1 victory.

After playing the full 90 minutes of both the previous group games, England Coach Lois Fidler rested Jemma for the final group game against Russia, where England gained a narrow 1-0 victory and progressed to the next qualification stage of the UEFA U17 Championship.

England will find out their opponents for another round-robin phase on December 11, but after some assured performances, Jemma will be confident of adding to her nine international caps.

The Herald Young Sports Personality of the Year nominee will hoping to cap off a memorable year at the Pavilions Award ceremony next month, but with Jemma not turning 16 years of age until January, it is expected that her progress will once again sharply increase as she becomes eligible to play open-age women's football.
