EDUCATION AND FOOTBALL
PLYMOUTH Argyle Football in the Community coaches Mark Lovell and Mark Rivers put prospective students through their paces at John Kitto Community College in the search for future Plymouth Argyle players.
The exciting new scheme ties in education and football to allow pupils the ability to gain nationally recognised qualifications, whilst nurturing their football talent within a professional football club.
The scheme is aimed at young people who may not have been taken on in professional football youth training schemes and would like to stay in the game. It allows young people the opportunity to develop their vocational skills that can be applied to the sports field whilst also developing their football skills.
Potential students undertook a football assessment day where each pupil was under the watchful eyes of their course tutors and coaches, examining their technique, skill, fitness and match play.
Over thirty participants attended in a very successful day. Scheme manager Mark Rivers explained: 'The player assessments were a huge success with a large majority of pupils showing lots of football ability. The standard was set high by the students and we look forward to the next player assessments."
